We made it!

August 13th, 2009 Dallas 2 comments

We finally made it! Finally!

We are at the hotel now getting cleaned up and ready to visit Cierra’s new place. Everyone is supposed to be meeting at 5pm to finalize everything. After that Cierra, Autum + BF, and I are going out to dinner.

Last screenshot to complete the set:

Virginia Drivers: Illinois drivers make you all look like heathens of the roadway. I’ve never seen such considerate motorists before.

Welcome to Indiana!

Well sort of; we’re still about 15 minutes out, but I’m starting to crash so I’m hopping in the passenger seat for a nap. Goodnight.

Scratch that – we’re officially in Indiana. Shooting stars are still going strong. Three states down, two to go!

Driving 70 mph legally. Crazy.

Special thanks to Dan for fixing my botched file permissions so that I could upload images.

Mobile update test

August 12th, 2009 Dallas 1 comment

This is a test of the Wordpress app on my iPhone. Hopefully the world will see this.

One last thing I should mention: due to local network issues (I will elaborate later) I have to essentially bring the site down to update. If you visit and it’s very slow to load and it looks all screwed up, there is probably a post on the way out.

Let’s try this again

August 12th, 2009 Dallas 2 comments

“Let’s try this again” is right. This is the fourth time I’ve had to recreate this post due to technical issues.

I’m going to give blogging another shot, hopefully with more success this time. It only took a couple tries to get hooked on Twitter, so maybe this will be the one. Plus, if my Mom can do it, I can too right?

In an attempt to make things a little more exciting, I’m hosting this site on a Linux server out of my bedroom. While this is pretty sweet, I haven’t had much time to test it properly which means that the site isn’t necessarily very stable (or fast). I’ll get around to fine tuning everything eventually, but for now she’s being held together by pure luck. Speaking of fine tuning, the Twitter feed on the right doesn’t cache the data that it displays. Because Twitter limits the number of API calls allowed in a certain time span, if you refresh the page too often the feed may be disabled for a short time. It’s a known issue and is being worked on now.

In a few hours I’m leaving for Iowa. I’m planning on updating on the road so check in this week for awesome pictures of fields and corn rows. That is, assuming the server doesn’t fall apart (coin-flip odds). Feel free to leave comments, just don’t make them too mushy, vulgar, or otherwise lame. This is on the internet – people read this stuff! You’ll probably have to make an account to post, and I’ll probably have to manually accept the comment. I’m not sure, I haven’t had much time with this yet.
